March 2010: New FAQ on completing grey literature section of the form
We have added a new FAQ to help advise contractors on completing the grey literature section of the form. In a number of cases, grey literature has been uploaded but the check box hasn't been checked to say that the process has been completed. These records are in limbo and unable to move through the system until the contractor has recorded that they have finished uploading files. The FAQ gives step-by-step instructions on how to rectify this problem.
February 2010: Survey on grey literature - iPod touch to be won!
The ADS is currently undertaking a small project for English Heritage doing
a quick survey and review of holdings of grey literature within HERs,
contracting units, and by other archaeological bodies. The survey aims to
get an overview of the production of grey literature, how much you keep, how
you store it and how you may want to use it in the future. The survey will be
available until 17th March and entries that include a name and email
address will be entered into a prize draw to win an 'iPod touch'.
January 2010: 150+ reports uploaded to the Grey Literature Library
Over 150 reports have been added to the Grey Literature Library this month, taking the total number of reports in the library to 4671! Over 90% of these reports have come to the library through the OASIS form.
The ADS welcomes community archaeology projects and local societies to the OASIS online submission form. Please feel free to register as a user and work through the form. If you have any queries please contact either caf@britarch.ac.uk or, for technical issues, oasis@ads.ahds.ac.uk.
The OASIS project brings together a number of strategic partners: the Archaeology Data Service, the Archaeological Investigations Project (AIP) of Bournemouth University, the Archaeology Commissions Section of English Heritage, the National Monuments Record of English Heritage, Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland under the umbrella of the University of York.
An OASIS form is available for both England and Scotland. Contractors will need only one login to access both the English and the Scottish versions of OASIS but will be asked to choose which country they are working in after entering their username and password. HERs will automatically be directed to the right version of the form for the area they cover.
